The application of Sinus Lifting is to treat the losses that occur in the base area of the sinus cavities that are adjacent to the upper jaw by adding bone grafts, also known as bone powder. Bone loss observed over time due to the loss of teeth located in the upper jaw, in the posterior region, is the main factor for sagging occurring at the base of the sinus. Sinus Lifting treatment is necessary in cases where these tissue losses are an obstacle to implant application.

How is Sinus Lifting Treatment Applied?
Sinus base upgrade application can be completed without loss of comfort with local anesthesia within a short period of time. During the first planned session, the patient’s oral condition, facial profile and radiographic records are evaluated and a detailed examination is performed. If the person provides the appropriate conditions for sinus lifting treatment, the area where the application will be performed is planned in detail. During the application session of the treatment, the necessary area is regulated in order to reach the sinus membrane surrounding the sinus cavity first. Then the process of lifting the membrane at the required rate from the base of the sinus is performed. A special membrane is placed in the cavity formed by this application to ensure the stabilization of the bone graft and the graft. Then the soft tissue is closed with the help of sutures and the treatment is terminated.
Can the Implant Application Be Performed Within the Same Session with the Sinus Lifting Procedure?
Implant applications planned to be performed in the relevant region can usually be performed in the same session as sinus base upgrade operations. The most important criterion for carrying out treatment together is that the immobility of the implant to be made can be ensured. However, in cases where advanced bone loss occurs, implant treatment should be postponed because it is not possible to stabilize the implant. In these cases, implant treatment can be planned when ossification has reached an ideal level in the area where the bone graft has been added. After this process, which is completed in 6 months on average, implant treatment can be started. Detailed information about the process of applying implant therapy is contained in our article “Dental Implant Applications”.
What Should Be Considered After Sinus Lifting?
No nutrients should be consumed during the first 2 hours after sinus base upgrade. During the rest of the day, it is recommended to eat with teeth located on the side that has not been treated to ensure the protection of the wound area. It is normal for some pain and edema to develop in response to the change in the area due to the addition of a bone graft to the relevant area. Applying cold compresses to the area in the first 24 hours after treatment and the recommended dose and duration of medication prescribed by the dentist with the use of these side effects can be eliminated in a short time and the loss of comfort can be controlled largely. Other factors that will be effective in accelerating the healing process are ensuring the cleanliness and immobility of the area. To ensure the cleanliness of the area, it is enough to remove food residues with the help of a soft toothbrush recommended by the dentist in accordance with the treatment area. In order to maintain stabilization in the area, it is recommended to avoid movements that will create high pressure when cleaning the nose in the first few days after treatment.
